After my last weight cut I spent some time reflecting on how much that sucked and how much I'd rather not do it again. I happen to fall in a very in-between-ish weight category where I'm either the twerp of the bunch (usually with a cutoff in the 135-140 lb region) or the hulking amazon (anything under 135lbs). So I thought maybe it would be a possibility to gain some weight and fall more squarely into the next weight category up. Also then I'd be stronger and more intimidating rather than lanky and adolescent looking.
I figured that hitting 150 or so would be just about right. And since I'm pretty consistently 140 ten pounds didn't seem so difficult. Just eat more, keep working out, maybe even add some more strength training for muscular awesomeness--formula for success! Except for one thing. In my nutrition class we've had to do all kinds of intake and exercise tracking, in great detail and with charts and everything. And as it stands to maintain my weight I have to take in about 3000 calories on heavy activity days, slightly less on lazy days. That's a struggle often enough anyway, so trying to eat more than that would probably cause me to rupture. For the past two weeks I've given it my best shot, at first adding healthy fats like nuts and avocados; then totally just going nuts and adding Thai food and pretty much anything that wasn't nailed down. Since I'm hungry about every 2 hours anyway this led to near-constant eating.
The result: no weight gain at all. I thought there was for a day or so but that was just water retention or maybe something else transitory in situ. That was me being delicate and not talking about shit. And in addition to failure, I just got really tired of eating and kind of wanted to stop doing it all the time. So I'm giving up and hoping that next tournament has the weight category of 140-142 lbs. I could totally own that category.
