A Rose By Any Other Name

One thing I feel is important to the point of being imperative is to recognize that grappling is very intimate. I mean, it is two people wrestling around on the ground together fighting for position, not unlike sex but less naked and often with a partner not of your choosing.  Often one finds oneself with one's face in someone's armpit, or groinular region, or just lying in a tightly bound missionary position.

With a sport so touchy-feely, one must consider that your opponent will be in very close contact with your personal smells. And as a respectful and kind measure, one should insure that said smells are pleasant rather than offensive. This is evidently a less obvious courtesy than one might hope. Another point of etiquette is to not wear a wife beater shirt lest your hairy armpits that drip with sweat in the heat of the grapple be rested upon your opponent's shoulder, rendering her helpless in a fit of grossing out.
